Support Worker - Short Break Service, Belfast

The Short Break Service provides one to one social and emotional support to children and young people, to enable them to develop friendships and access social and recreational opportunities at home or within their local community, whilst providing parents and carers with a regular short break.

It is a fun and exciting service providing individual support to children and young people with, disabilities, autism, and brain injury. 

Your role as a Project Worker / Support Worker within the Belfast Short Break Service will be to enable young people to access a range of fun activities within their own home or their local area on a one to one or small group setting. It may be attending a local youth club, educational play such as arts and crafts or supporting the young people in sporting or other social/leisure activities. 

The Project Worker / Support Worker will provide personal care and transport to young people where necessary, and this may include some manual handling tasks.

You will have your own caseload of families and young people, providing short break and respite care on a regular basis over a 37 hours week, that will involve early evening and Saturday working. This post covers the Belfast.

The criterion for this fantastic PERMANENT role is:

  • NVQII (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care OR 5 GCSEs inc English Language

AND

  • 6 months relevant paid experience
  • Full driving licence and access to a care for business purposes

OR

  • 2 years paid experience in a caring role providing direct care and support to individuals

AND

  • be willing to complete RCF/NVQII certificate in Health and Social Care
  • Full driving licence and access to a care for business purposes
